In honor of the premiere of Disney's "Hercules," comes this. I wrote
this bit after listening to the soundtrack too many times. When you
think of the sound, think like the great R & B girl groups from the 60's
and 70's-- really soulful. The chorus is almost gospel. If you like,
think of this scene as somewhat before "Walls of Love."

THE REAL ADVENTURES OF JONNY QUEST

Synopsis: A musical scene. Jessie's in denial about her feelings.

"I Won't Say"

by Eric R. Umali

SCENE: 3 PM at Rockport High. JESSIE is at her locker, getting ready to
leave. Two of her FRIENDS stand nearby, and the three girls are gabbing.

FRIEND #1: So, Jessie-- who are you taking to the dance?

FRIEND #2: As if we didn't know. (they giggle)

JESSIE: And what is _that_ supposed to mean?

FRIEND #2: Oh, please.

FRIEND #1: As if there isn't a single person in this school who
doesn't know you're in love.

JESSIE: With who?

The girls both turn down the hall and point at the blonde teenager in the
black shirt packing his books.

You've got to be kidding me. Jonny? He's my best friend!

FRIEND #1: Yeah, and...?

JESSIE: And nothing!

FRIEND #2: Yep, she's got it bad.

FRIEND #1: Mmm-hmm.

JESSIE: You two are seriously deluded.

She shuts her locker.

Just drop it, all right? I'm going to go catch a ride with my _friend_
and go home. I'll
call you later.

JESSIE turns and starts walking down the hall. Lights dim around her,
and the world drops away, leaving her alone with her thoughts.

JESSIE (singing quietly, softly)
If there's a prize for
rotten judgment
I guess I've already
won that
No man is worth the
aggravation

(stronger)
That's ancient history-
been there, done that!

A CHORUS starts behind her, lights come up on four women: JADE, MARIE
METIER, DIANA CRUZ and NATASHA ROSTOVA. They represent Jessie's heart,
while her words come more from her head. The CHORUS sings like one of
the great R&B girl groups. During the number, JESSIE keeps walking
slowly towards the other end of the hallway.

        CHORUS:
        *Who'd'ya think
        you're kiddin'
        He's the Earth and
        heaven to you
        Try to keep it hidden
        Honey, we can see right
        through you
        Girl, ya can't conceal it
We know how ya feel and
        Who you're thinking of *

JESSIE:
No chance, no way
I won't say it, no, no

        CHORUS:
        *You swoon, you sigh
        why deny it, uh-oh!*

JESSIE:
It's too cliche
I won't say I'm in love-

I thought my heart had
learned its lesson
It feels so good when
you start out
My head is screaming
get a grip, girl
Unless you're dying to
cry your hear out
Oh-

        CHORUS:
        *You keep on denying
        Who you are and how
        you're feeling
        Baby, we're not buying
        Hon, we saw ya hit
        the ceiling
Face it like a grown up
        When ya gonna own up
        That ya got, got
        got it bad *

JESSIE:
No chance, no way
I won't say it, no, no

        CHORUS:
        *Give up, give in
        Check the grin you're
        in love*

JESSIE:
This scene won't play,
I won't say I'm in love

        CHORUS:
        *You're doin' flips
        read our lips
        You're in love*

JESSIE:
You're way off base
I won't say it
Get off my case
I won't say it

        CHORUS:
        *Girl, don't be proud
        It's O.K. you're in love
        Oh-*

JESSIE reaches the other end of the hall. JONNY is standing right in
front of her, all smiles.

JONNY: All set to go, Jess?

JESSIE: Lead the way.

(quiet and soft again)

At least out loud, I won't
say I'm in love...

        CHORUS:
*Sha la la la la la la- ahhh-*

THE END.
