"And I know eventually we’ll be together, one sweet day…"

"Dammit!" Jessie slammed the off button of her CD player and was
seriously considering breaking her Mariah Carey CD in half, when Jonny
walked into the room.

"Shh, Jess. There was nothing you could do."

"Yes there was! I could have saved them… Told them there was a cure.… I
lost Ellyn in the eighth grade… And now, Jai and Sunny…" She suddenly
couldn’t control herself and would have fallen over crying, if her
husband had not caught her in his arms.

"I still don’t know exactly what happened…" he said after a long time.

"Well, Sunny had leukemia. But, no one knew until last week… When they
found out, they were going to commit suicide. I found out, and I got to
them just before them jumped. I pleaded, begged, did everything I could
think of, except tell them about the cure the lab had found last week…"
She broke down sobbing again. When she calmed down she said: "I still
remember the look on their faces. They looked up at me as they fell…
They seemed so calm… so serene… But then, their bodies hit the rocks
and that’s when Sunny screamed…"

The phone rang and Jonny answered it. "Hello? Yes. Omigod. Thank
you."

"Who was it?"

"The doctors. Sunny didn’t have leukemia. And she was pregnant."

Jessie gasped and sobbed three times before falling into his arms to
weep for the next hour.

"They were good people… Just made a mistake too early…" The preacher
turned to leave. Jessie and Jonny were Sunny and Jai’s only family.
They were both orphaned at 18. They sat in the tents that sheltered the
hole that held the two coffins of their Asian friends and the unborn
child. Jessie was the first to get up and place a two yellow roses on
the blue coffins. Jonny followed, placing two red ones.

The two walked outside to look at the tombstone of the young couple. It
read:

Jai Kim and Sunny Soung
1983 - 2009
"A pair of star crossed lovers take their lives…"

Jessie placed a rose on the headstone and turned toward the rising sun.
A single tear rolled down her cheek and fell at the grave.

She moved a few feet to Ellyn’s headstone and placed a rose on top of
it.

"Goodbye, my friends…" She then could not control herself any longer
and broke sown crying in Jonny’s arms.
