A Song For Mama
sung by: Boyz to Men
Vid by: Nix

You taught me everything
*scene goes to a five yearold Jessie with Estella on an archaeological
dig in South America, Jessie is holding Estella's hand as they look at
an artifact*
And everything you’ve given me
I always keep it inside
*scene moves to Hadji and Neela embracing tightly as they hug for the
first time in a loong time*
You’re the driving force in my life, yeah

There isn’t anything
Or anyone I can be
And it just wouldn’t feel right
If I didn’t have you by my side
*A seven yrs.old Jonny baking with his mom Rachel, Jonny licks the
batter on his hands, with Rachel lovingly pushing a lock of his golden
hair from his face and smiles at him*

You were there for me to love and care for me
When skies were grey
*Jessie crying to her mother when they were leaving the States, with
Race down in the airport waving painfully goodbye and mouthing the words
"I love you"*
Whenever I was down
You were always there to comfort me
And no one else can be what you have been to me
You’ll always be you always will be the girl
In my life for all times
*Jonny crying because he had tripped and gotten a wound, with Rachel
comforting him and applying medicine, with Jonny cringing in pain and
Rachel soothing him as she hugged the sobbing three yearold*

Chorus:
Mama, mama you know I love you
Oh you know I love you
Mama, mama you’re the queen of my heart
*Hadji sitting beside Neela in the Bangalore throne, and he looks at her
with such happiness to know that he had a mother that loves him*
Your love is like
Tears from the stars
*Rachel crying quietly as Jonny says, "I love you mommy" after she tends
to his wounds*
Mama, I just want you to know
Lovin’ you is like food to my soul
*fictional scene where the teenagers and their mothers are all seated
together and everyone is laughing and having a good time*

You’re always down for me
Have always been around for me even when I was bad
*Rachel scolding Jonny for getting into another fight*
You showed me right from my wrong
Yes you did
*Jonny looking down in tears, as Rachel softens and hugs him telling him
not to do that anymore and Jonny embraces her tightly saying he won't
anymore*

And you took up for me
When everyone was downin’ me
*Jessie screaming at why her family broke up, with Estella quietly
listening*
You always did understand
You gave me strength to go on
*Jessie breaking down in tears as Estella comforts her and says its not
her fault, and everything will work out*

There was so many times
Looking back when I was so afraid
*a very young Hadji waking up in the middle of the night and running to
his parent's room with Neela taking him into her arms*
And then you come to me
And say to me I can face anything
*she lovingly gazes into his dark brown eyes and says there is nothing
he can't face*
And no one else can do
What you have done for me
*Hadji nodding and hugs her tightly*
You’ll always be
You will always be the girl in my life
*Hadji in the doorway of his parent's room, smiling at Neela and saying,
"You are the best mother in the world"*

Chorus
Mama, mama you know I love you
Oh you know I love you
Mama, mama you’re the queen of my heart
*Hadji sitting beside Neela in the Bangalore throne, and he looks at her
with such happiness to know that he had a mother that loves him*
Your love is like
Tears from the stars
*Rachel crying quietly as Jonny says, "I love you mommy" after she tends
to his wounds*
Mama, I just want you to know
Lovin’ you is like food to my soul
*fictional scene where the teenagers and their mothers are all seated
together and everyone is laughing and having a good time*

author's rant: I had this idea toiling in my head after the first time I
heard this song. I like to imagine how Jonny's relationship with Rachel
would have been if she was still alive. I was always wondered how a
young Jessie was with Estella. Well I guess my message here is to
appreciate your moms, cuz you don't know how much they really mean for
you until their gone.
